Who’s in Your Tribe

When was the last time you thought about your social circle, your friends, or your support team? In other words, who are the people that walk beside you, listen to you, encourage you and speak the truth to you even when it’s difficult?

I call this your tribe, and this tribe can be made up of friends from work, family members, and outside friends you meet along your way.  Other ways to find support might include parents of your kid’s friends, people from church, individuals within professional organizations or other like-minded groups you belong to. The people in your tribe can come from many different avenues and everyone’s tribe is different.

What’s Holding You Back?

My 18-month-old Grandson came for a visit this last weekend.  Alexander is filled with endless energy, giggles unceasing and such a joy to be around.  I believe Alex is one of the happiest little boys I have recently experienced.  He is also filled with a huge dose of curiosity, and determination.

His last few months have been packed with much learning and growing.  He has learned to walk, go up and down stairs, wave goodbye, blow kisses, give hugs, recognize colors, eat with a fork, clap at the end of a song and when accomplishments are made by himself or others. The list goes on and on and will continue to grow as the days pass!

As I consider the accomplishments Alex has conquered,

What’s In Your Home

What do Allergies, Asthma, ADHA, Hormone Disruption, Mental Health Issues, Leaky Gut, and Cancer all have in common.  If you guessed they are all medical conditions, you are right. But wait there’s more to it. Today, I want to talk about the commonality of this list as it pertains to improving your health and lowing your risks for future illness.

For decades our society has embraced living a healthy lifestyle. The exciting news is that never before has there been this much medical research and available resources to  you and me to take charge of our health. We have choices…. and some really good ones!

I have always been conscientious of living a life which promotes health and wellness.

Life Without Regrets

It has been a year and a half since my mom passed away.  The process of grieving has taught me much about the deep void that comes along once both parents are gone from this life. The grieving process has also invited me to spend much time thinking about and defining the meaning of a life well lived and what’s important.  So what is important?

In her book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, Bronnie Ware shares inspiring stories and experiences during her time as a palliative caregiver. The people she cared for were all entering the end stage of their life. As each one looked back on their life, they discovered much about how they had lived,

Yes or No?

Making the decision to say yes or no is often difficult when it comes to offering help or caring for others.  Saying no can seem unloving, selfish, and unchristian like…… but often, saying yes doesn’t feel quite right either.

When we extend help to others through a balanced life around our own self-care and available resources, the result is typically a wonderful, feel good gift that we receive deep down inside our beings. Acts of altruism bring about happiness, energy, and many other positive emotions.

However, when our helping and caring goes beyond our own healthy limits, we can become fatigued, burned out, and even suffer from ill health.  It is commonly known in the medical field that caregivers often stand a high risk of dying before the loved one they are caring for.
