3 Steps to Lasting Change

Want to make positive changes in your life this year? Would you like these changes to be lasting? Do you believe it’s possible?

Consider for a moment, a habit. A behavior or pattern that you repeat over and over and eventually becomes something you do without much thought; such as……. brushing your teeth, taking a shower, driving to work, feeding the dog, collecting the mail. Would you agree  these are behaviors you do requiring little or no thought?

What if you turned the changes you want to make this year into a habit? A behavior your future self will do with little or no struggle! What if I told you it’s simpler than you think?

Laughter……The Best Medicine

My “holiday to do” list going into last weekend was very long. In addition to this list, my almost 2-year-old grandson was coming for an overnight visit. Anyone who has been around a 2-year-old knows the constant attention needed, especially when a decorated Christmas tree is in the middle of the room!

Along with abounding energy, also comes an enormous amount of laughter! Alex literally laughs at almost everything! His constant giggles are contagious. During his visit,  all the stress and pressure of the things on my “to do list” suddenly became not so important as I was more relaxed and enjoying life in the very moment. Thank you, Alex, for sharing your wonderful gift of laughter!

As I considered how this laughter made me feel,

Thriving Through The Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Why then do words like hectic and stressful seem to be a part of this most wonderful time of year? What if this year was different? What if hectic was replaced with peace and joy? What if dread and loneliness was replaced with joy and laughter?

The truth is, many of us live lives that are already very busy with no margin or room to add anything else into our day. The holiday season brings many extra opportunities to celebrate and fill our time and calendar. Holiday decorating, baking, parties, musicals, special worship celebrations, family gatherings, and shopping (to name a few)!

The holiday season can also be filled with expectations.

Peace Today

Finding Peace and Joy Today

No doubt, when discussions about the holidays come up, there are always mixed feelings.  Thanksgiving is here, and I would guess that some people reading this are looking forward to the holiday,  while there are others who cannot wait for this day to pass.

I recall a client talking about the year her mother passed away and Thanksgiving was the darkest and saddest that year.  However, the following Thanksgiving my client was reunited with family members who she had not seen in a long time because of a painful misunderstanding. She worked hard throughout the year rebuilding bridges until the broken relationship was mended.  “This year is going to be the best Thanksgiving ever,” she excitedly announced.

Which One Are You Feeding?

10 benefits of positive thinking and a grateful heart

Sitting around the fire one night, a wise Native American grandfather told his grandson, “My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all.

One is Evil.

This one is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, guilt, negative thinking, lies and self-doubt.

The Other is Good.

This one is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, gratefulness, and truth.

The boy thought about it, and asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins”?

The old man quietly replied, “The one you feed.”
